Fabulous Instructor. Temperamental Weather. 360 degree Vistas & Vinettes.

The class was Sketching In Watercolor with Shari Blaukopf. My focus was to learn more about how to achieve greater color control and use of values on the page … all expertly taught by Shari Blaukopf during the week… plus, everyone in the class had a list of techniques they wanted to improve and were talented learning partners.
Enjoy these photos and sketches from the week.

Shari has this incredible wash and brush technique that results in a very interesting blending of color and builds depth… something to aspire for.
A ‘Desert Palette’ was adopted.

- Because of the rain during the week ‘the wash’ was full of water. The desert landscape and light created a good challenge. On Arches ‘Rough’ pad, mostly using the ‘Desert Triad’ of colors.

Friday afternoon it was time to sketch ‘Horses’. These are in water soluble pen with water wash. My 1st horse portraits!

Now venturing out on my own with some new watercolor sketching skills!
A few days of urban sketching [ Flower Show. Gardens. Parks. Public Art] with a friend in Mesa/Phoenix/Scottsdale. Using my new Hahnemuhle sketchbook A6 landscape.

Continuing to practice my desert sketching skills with these daily sketches from Shari’s online class:
