Royal Color

Queen Elizabeth II 1960

I was referred by a reader to a colorful book, Our Rainbow Queen by Sali Hughes. I found a copy on Abe books to add to my color library.

Sali Hughes is quoted as saying “The queen tends to wear one color because she feels that if people are queuing for many hours just to see her, the courtesy she should show them is make it so they can see her. Those in the audience will be able to pick her out.”

She always picks colors that are diplomatically and culturally appropriate to the event.

As I await my copy of the book, I did a couple sketches from photos to capture some royal color.

My sketch uses Phthalo Blue. Those bright yellow/orange daffodils are a bold contrast to the blue. Picture perfect.
