On this day, the Sun rises farthest left on the horizon, and sets at its rightmost possible spot. Sunlight strikes places in your home that get illuminated at no other time

The solstice on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 happens at the same instance for all of us, everywhere on Earth. In my time zone that is 2:24 AM PDT. It is on solstice that the sun reaches its northernmost position reaching the ‘Tropic of Cancer’ and standing still before reversing direction. That’s how the Tropic of Cancer got its name… a few thousand years ago, the solstice happened when the Sun was in the constellation of Cancer the Crab.
Here is my watercolor sketch of Solstice musing.

The energy the Sun emits most strongly is infra-red, the kind we feel as heat. But here is a color fact: The Sun emits all colors; the calculated energy of the Sun is a blue green… but because we view the sun through our atmosphere, we perceive the Suns output as yellow!
In the fall of 2017, I was in London and took a tour out to Stonehenge. It was humbling to stand at this grand prehistoric monument. Built approximately 2500 BC to precisely frame sunrise at summer solstice [and sunset at winter solstice].

ENJOY your midsummers day!
