Today was a tour of Verona through the well-preserved monuments of different eras… and a wine tasting.

The Verona arena dates from 45 AD [25yrs older than the arena in Rome] Being well preserved, 99% orginal and with perfect aucustics, today the arena is one of the few places in the world where 15k people can hear live voice without amplification.

Verona was walled and above is the Roman gate/entry, followed by some pics of buildings from Middle Ages, Renaissance and Baroque eras. In 1117 an earthquake destroyed most city structures.

Verona has good geography and those who stayed after the earthquake to rebuild were merchants who built up successful trade and a powerful city. This new growth and wealth threatened prior rulers and land owners….
… and this situation created feuding families!

There is so much more to the story of Verona … including the red wine of the area Valpolicella!

And YES, Italians eat pizza with a knife and fork!
