Japan 2

Our day started with a visit to the ‘Parisian’ area of Tokyo, yes there is one.

Next stop was the ‘Sumo Stables’ area of Tokyo … NO Sumo sightings but we did peek into a stable and a Sumo sized clothing store.

We visited the Imperial Hotel. We wanted to see the remaining Frank Lloyd Wright wall section in Old Imperial bar. The lobby of the hotel was grand with an ice sculpture in the lobby restaurant and a huge chrysanthemum bouquet. We headed up to the Imperial bar where we were very welcomed to view the wall of Oya carved and painted stone and other FLW items.

On the way to the Miyuki bead factory we had a very pleasant wander thru across Yanagi bridge where the Kanda River merges with the Sumida River.  There were traditional house boats moored and wooden structures built along the bridge and adjacent area which appeared to be traditional restaurants.  [ I read this evening that the boat in “Daimatsu,” which appears in the classic rakugo story “Funatoku,” was located around here ]

Our evening was along the Ginza shopping district and we wrapped up with a fabulous dinner at a soba noodle shop.

Our steps for the day came out at about 8 miles.

Learning exercise early!
