Japan 3

We started with a visit to the – wrapping with a square cloth – furoshiki maker Musubi.

Then wandered thru the Pontocho district in Nakagyo Ward, it is a historic narrow alley running along the Kamo River. We enjoyed the traditional architecture and local charm.

The Pontocho Kaburenjo theatre, circa-1927 is a performing arts venue at one end of the alley.

Then to the Samurai Museum. Kyoto was the imperial capital of Japan (794–1868) and a major political and battle stage. And this is where the samurai warrior class originated and established power . The details on the ‘armour’ rivals the handwork found on Dolce & Gabbana! Leather, braids, silk, metals…

We took an evening walk to kyoto station…

Now, a fashion note from Hunter. The two styles of garments shown in this window display, when worn in light blues will give you that ‘Japanese grandma vibe’!
